K.A.L.I. was built one thread at a time, in our Nairobi atelier alongside artisans who have spent decades, and in some cases their entire working lives, perfecting a single craft.

The Weave
HANDLOOM
Looks like linen, drapes like silk, but is rain-fed handwoven East African cotton. Our signature handloom is only available through wearing the pieces. Crafted entirely by hand with zero-electricity. The yarn is dyed with plants before weaving, allowing the healing properties of each colour to be innate to each thread.
K.A.L.I. PRINT

Where heritage meets innovation. The intricate print was crafted over hundreds of hours for each garment. The cotton is pleated by hand and layered under the sun. The pattern emerges from within the fabric as the tea residue oxidizes. Every inch is handcrafted & unique, making each piece truly one of a kind
Developed with Amos Kimani, aged 86, and Betty Cheruiyot, aged 23 — more than sixty years of difference and one shared discipline.
The Metal
BRASS
From bangles to buttons, our handcrafted hardware is reclaimed metal. Given a second life by a second generation brass artisan based in Kibera, Nairobi.
The ergonomic shapes are inspired by volcanic ash and are all unique.
CROCHET
Crafted by hand by independent women makers, in natural cotton. Engineered with care to move with the body, our crochet pieces are an exploration of movement in all human form.
